The easiest solution to get everything work nice is to install the 
2.6.34 kernel from here:
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v2.6.34-lucid/

It is for Lucid and yet I use it under Karmic with no problem until now.
Then I created a file /etc/modprobe.d/psmouse.conf and just wrote
options psmouse force_elantech=1
in it and now the touchpad is recognized as a touchpad... Good news!
