Re: ACPI experts anyone? Re: NVIDIA Optimus (Dell L702X)

I have finally managed to get 11.04 installed in dual boot with windows. I had to use the alternative text based installer with apci=off. This allowed for video to come up correctly as well as wireless. I still have no touchpad and the nvidia I have not loaded yet as it seems to want to break each time I try. I have posted request with ubuntu on launchpad for each issue and am awaiting responses.

regards
Mark

Hi Mark,

As I'm currently waiting for my XPS 15z to arrive ( should be here in a week or 2 ), I'm quite interested in your progress, since I'll be dealing with the same issues as soon as it arrives. :P

Have you tried to boot the Ubuntu 11.04 Alpha live cd? Maybe you can at least get basic intel 3000 functionality, and go on from there.

Kind regards,

In my attempts to install even 11.04 I get to the load screen with the 4 dots then the screen goes black and that is it I am only able to instal 10.04 and any attempt to upgrade to 10.10 give me the same results just a black screen. i am at present down loading the alternative install dick to attempt a no graphical install and see if it will load even the intel hd 3000 correctly. I also have no touchpad or wireless though I am able to get the wireless to work via the compat-wireless packages. Is very frustrating I have been at this for hours trying to get it to load in some fashion. I was hoping the bumblebee package would help but it seems that loading from 10.04 does not cooperate as the intel card does not even give me the right screen resolutions so I am assuming that not even that is correctly set up.
