Re: [Ayatana] Simplifying access to the places

Hi Jono,

Yes, it has been discussed on the mailing list already. People really like the idea. :)

Actually, the person who made that mockup (David I believe) made several.
I personally much prefer this one:http://unity.exemo.net/3/
No flipping action, just a graceful slide-in. It feels much more natural to me that way, also because it's a less jarring change (the only animation involved is sliding-in).

Hi Everyone,

Apologies if this has already been discussed, but I just wanted to share
a mock-up I was shown today which I think provides a wonderful solution
to one of the few design problems I am experiencing in Unity.

The problem is that if I want to click the Apps or Files places I have
to take mouse up to the top-left part of the screen and then hover down
the launcher, clicking to move it, where I can click on the places at
the bottom. This feels like a bit too much clicking around and requires
quite a bit of coordination.

I was then shown http://unity.exemo.net/# today - if you click the BFB,
when the dash appears the places appear to the left of it on the
Launcher. This feels like a natural and elegant way of access them.

Is this something that has been or could be considered for a future
version of Unity?

Many thanks,

   Jono
