Re: [Ayatana] Software center icon needs designers minds, and new humanity desktop methafor.

I like the mockup icon, but not for USC. I think icons like that (but a different colour) would be good for synaptic and update manager.

It's so beautiful and clever, too clever ( for sombody) the usability
testing revealed that people need to have things very easy, try to imagine
that your grandmother would have to guess that the icon represents? This is,
in my opinion what the design team try to do, ubutnu for (everybody).
I wonder if it's really possible to create a single icon that can
communicate this complicated concept to such a wide aundience range.
Your grandmother probably won't be able to understand what a software
repository (or a software center) is without a prior explaination, and
using a familiar image as a shopping bag can have an undesired effect,
like "hey, I don't want to buy a program. I want a free one".
You simply can't create a single icon with such audience coverage.
What is familiar for young, computer-literate people, may not be
familiar for your grandmother, and things that are familiar to your
grandmother may make no sense to younger people.
Seeking for universal solutions for such complex concepts, and with
the additional need of making it look simple and easy to read in small
sizes is probably just utopic

On the other hand, this is more a logotipe than icon for me,includes a brand
in itself very differently and I like that.
I created that "logotype" version just to show the re-use of the U1 brand idea.
I think that converting the USC from an application to a "service" has
potential, though.
