That would only work for Firefox, not all programs that have buttons on the left hand side.
Do you have a specific application in mind? I can't recall any application with buttons that touch the left side of the screen (please note that if the buttons don't touch the side, there's no change in behavior!) Moreover, there's no other component that touches the left side of the screen (treeviews don't touch the sides, left-side scrollbars don't exist).
