[Bug 1178199] Re: X freeze on video playback

The cause seems to be in the nvidia drivers, as acknowledged by nvidia:

Title:
  X freeze on video playback

Status in Enablement project for the Toshiba AC100 NetBook:
  New
Status in “linux-ac100” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  Using:
  - lubuntu 12.10 (ac100)
  - nvidia proprietary drivers
  - mplayer

When trying to play a video, a video window is open and X freezes.
I can switch to console and back to X (ctrl-alt-f1) and kill the mplayer and X, but it remains frozen.

This also happens when using ekiga to display self image from the
  camera.

Note that this does not happen when using the "open source video drivers". (selected by the 'Software Sources' application)
( However, in that case I suspect from xorg.0.log that the FB driver is used instead of nouveau - but that's another story..)
