Hi guys,

I recently purchased a Acer TimelineX 1830tz. WLAN is working (but always
switched off after boot), Battery charging LED is working, also Compositing is
working out of the box.

But I have problems to set the backlight brightness. I think its not a problem
of the FN+Arrow keys - its something driver related (I tried xbacklight,
tried setting the brightness in /sys/ directory, tried the Helperscript posted
in the Ubuntu Wiki).

My first attempt fixing it was to set some boot options. But also
"acpi_backlight=vendor" and "acpi_backlight=video" don't work. "nomodeset"
makes things even worse. My ubuntu installations crashes while booting - I
expect it to be a Kernelpanic (Num Lock LED blinks).

So.. do you have any ideas how this could be fixed?

I'm willing to invest some time to fix this issue. So please also tell me what
I should do if there is no fix. Shall I file a bug? Shall I update the BIOS?
Shall I contact Acer's support?
