Title:
  Please upgrade acroread (Adobe Reader) to the latest upstream version
  (9.5.3)

Status in Canonical and Adobe collaboration project:
  Fix Released
Status in “acroread” package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  Please upgrade "acroread" package (Adobe Reader) to the latest upstream version, which is 9.5.3:
  http://get.adobe.com/reader/
  ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/unix/9.x/9.5.3/enu/
  (though I don't recommend users to install the upstream DEB package directly, as its packaging quality is quite poor).

  It's also a good idea to include Adobe Reader Asian font pack into the Ubuntu package:
  ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/unix/9.x/9.1/misc/

  As for now, the freshest Adobe Reader version found in Ubuntu repositories is an outdated acroread 9.5.1-1precise1, and it's not only outdated, but also has some serious packaging errors:
  1) it has some incorrect dependencies, which make it non-installable on amd64 systems due to multiarch problems (see bug #990761);
  2) the source package contains not only Adobe Reader 9.5.1 English version inside, but also obsolete 9.4.2 German, French and Japanese versions (needs some research, can result in some security problems etc.).

  For Ubuntu Quantal & Raring, Adobe Reader seems to be completely
  missing from Ubuntu repositories, i. e. "partner" repository.
