Why do you think that intel-microcode package v. 20171117 is hidden?

On https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/intel-microcode you can see that
up to now it has been packaged for the upcoming 18.04 release of Ubuntu.

There currently is work done on version 20171215 (also in the
development version only) to partially address CVE-2017-5715.

I expect that 20171215 will be rolled out also for older Ubuntu releases
in due course, omitting the need for 20171117.
