Re: [Bug 1] Re: Microsoft has a majority market share

Hi folks,

I am pretty sure that there is enough negative feedback on the Unity
thing of people not familiar with the UI any more now.

I want to tell, that on my Lucid I am about to get the optimum
configuration for AWN which I want to use on a regular basis because I
think can improve my productivity. When I look at Natty and the Unity
desktop I can say that the unity desktop is a step in the same
direction. Unfortunately in unity several core elements are
inefficient to reach and hidden in a non-user-friendly way and there
are still some issues and I definitely would have preferred when unity
would have been introduced as a new option and not already as the
default UI. However, I am optimistic that things will develop into the
right direction and when it is mature and user-proofen for efficiency
I will use it.

Maybe the reason, why unity already got the default is to have many
people use it. If it would have been only an option and not the
default, maybe only a very few would have used and tested (maybe only
the geeks among us)...

Bug description:
Microsoft has a majority market share in the new desktop PC marketplace.
This is a bug, which Ubuntu is designed to fix.

Non-free software is holding back innovation in the IT industry,
restricting access to IT to a small part of the world's population and
limiting the ability of software developers to reach their full
potential, globally. This bug is widely evident in the PC industry.

  Steps to repeat:

  1. Visit a local PC store.

  What happens:
  2. Observe that a majority of PCs for sale have non-free software pre-installed.
  3. Observe very few PCs with Ubuntu and free software pre-installed.

  What should happen:
  1. A majority of the PCs for sale should include only free software like Ubuntu.
  2. Ubuntu should be marketed in a way such that its amazing features and benefits would be apparent and known by all.
  3. The system shall become more and more user friendly as time passes.
