I do know how i18n works... I'm also a member of the Gnome i18n coordination
team. :)

The preferred approach would use a custom Anewt-specific gettext domain.
Translations for various languages should be added as .po files then.
However, before we proceed with such things, I prefer to split the current
Anewt directory layout into various pieces, e.g. something like this:
- Anewt/
- modules/
- core/
- form/
- page/
- .../
doc/
- scripts/
- i18n/
- Makefile
- HACKING
- ...
