I'm experiencing a similar issue. Seems to boot fine until it reaches gnome
login, instead two small white lines are displayed at the top of the black
screen. This is after I successfully logged into my fresh Ubuntu 9.10
install, made some requested updates, and shutdown. I have not had the
chance to install the .deb from this group.
