Just a quick email to say that powertop is indeed a miracle worker.

Using the karmic-backports to fix the wireless problem had made it work full
strength all the time. Powertop showed me how to activate the power
management.

Consumption is barely ever above 10W and I now have something closer to 9
hrs battery life :)
