Meeting Notes - 2010-08-05

This is a summary of the Ayatana UX team meeting of August 5, 2010. A
full log is available at
<http://irclogs.ubuntu.com/2010/08/05/%23ubuntu-meeting.html>.

Attending: Jan-Christoph Borchardt, Allan Caeg, Allan Day, Murat Güneş,
Benjamin Humphrey, Andreas Nilsson, Matthew Paul Thomas, Vish, Thorsten
Wilms.

== New Design Projects ==

Thorsten suggested having a list of potential (re)designs the team could
be involved in. The discussion evolved into listing the various
potential and existing places where projects can be tracked and work can
be coordinated. Particularly of note were:

* Allan Day's mention of weekly GNOME design office hours at
#gnome-design on GIMPnet (coming soon)

* <http://live.gnome.org/Design>

* <http://gitorious.org/gnome-design/gnome-design> , currently used for
sharing mockups with Sparkleshare.

== Personas ==

Benjamin mentioned that the Ubuntu Manual team were working on personas
for the manual. Allan Day added that Hylke Bons and Garrett LeSage had
started work on personas for GNOME, but that there hasn't been any work
done for some time.

The design pattern library that will be part of HIG 3
<http://live.gnome.org/action/edit/UsabilityProject/HIG3/> was discussed
briefly. Andreas noted the need for contributions to the library, and
Allan Day will be writing about it in his blog.
<http://pad.ubuntu-uk.org/ui-patterns> hosts some of the work so far.

== Software for Remote Testing ==

Screenie and Pongo are still work in progress, and need people working
on them. Vish will see if he can find a Screenie contributor. Further
discussion of Pongo took place (and is likely to continue to) in
#gnome-design on GIMPnet.

== User Testing Script Template ==

Benjamin noted that Kevin Godby may be working / willing to work on a
user testing script template.

== Also of Note ==

* We welcome Andreas Nilsson and Jan-Christoph Borchardt to the team!

* Allan Day will send a report to the gnome-usability list about the UX
advocates BoF at GUADEC

* Murat mentioned ClutterSmith as a potential tool for animated mockups

* Allan Day wrote a Pongo usability testing tutorial at
http://live.gnome.org/Pongo/Tutorial

Our next meeting will be at 1200 UTC, August 12, in #ubuntu-meeting.
