This has been fixed a while ago. Birdie should appear in the messaging
menu if libmessaging-menu-dev is installed while compiling the app. The
pre-built packages have not been updated yet to use this feature.

Bug description:
  I can't see the Birdie icon from the Ubuntu Messaging Menu on Raring
  Ringtail. Is this intended behavior? I also don't see any settings
  aside from adding / removing accounts. I really like this app because
  it's akin to the Twitter client for OS X.
