This is a bug with the dropbox package itself.  The appindicator icon
and menu is hard-coded for Unity only.

Use this dbus-launch workaround to display the dropbox icon in the
system-tray itself.

  Nautilus Dropbox menu in top panel not works and icon is missing.

  Without drop-down menu, normal user can't see status and can't
  configure dropbox.
