[Bug 1730012] [NEW] Top Panel as a dock : precise alignment, spacers and display mode

Public bug reported:

Hi,

here is Ubuntu Budgie 17.10 64bits, on a core i7 haswell, 16Go ram.

I try to avoid stacking too many horizontal bars on top of screen (
panel + title bar or csd + menu )

To achieve that I use top panel as a dock, with intelligent auto-hide.

All my applets are in the center part of if. So they hide title bar or
csd feature.

I'm looking for a way to precisely move that dock, a little more on the
right - but not in the right corner or they will hide some useful
buttons again…

For the moment only workaround I've found is using many many « spacers »
on the left of my applets.

Speaking about spacers : if their size is bigger than the actual height
of panel/dock, it also moves down the base-line of panel/dock. Hence the
use of many many spacers ( 39 spacers ×24px instead of 9×100px + 1×36px
)

About auto-hide, maybe there are one or two missing modes :
- always above windows ( yes I want title bar to fit in under my transparent dock/panel )
- clickable through ? Or at least spacers should not block ability to click what's under the dock, only visible applets should.

…well « clickable-through » mode would not be needed is there was a way
to precisely place panel-as-a-dock without using spacers…
