For anybody who is following trunk of lp:bzr-mac-installers, I've
switched the tool I use for building the installer package from
Apple's
Package Maker to Packages[1] by Stéphane Sudre. It's far more usable
than Package Maker and I've been able to improve the layout and look
of
the installer step where users select which components to install.
Stéphane is also quite responsive and fixed two bugs which I ran into
this week, which has allowed me to make this switch.
I switched for two main reasons: The first being that the file
format of
the project file used by Apple's Package Maker was not very VCS
friendly
and the contents would spuriously change for no apparent reason. The
second being that Package Maker itself was very hard to use and quite
primitive in some aspects, which made for a lot of manual labor if
significant changes had to be made to the installer.
I've uploaded[2] a disk image for bzr 2.1.0 to the bzr-mac-installers
trunk series, which contains an installer package built with the new
tool. I would appreciate it if somebody could try it out and let me
know
if they have any trouble or any suggestions.
Ciao,
Gordon
