couldn't a "on_change" on company_id request the client to close all open tabs ? ( the contrary of opening a tab from the menu)
this would trigger the "unsaved data" and would require to reopen all menu items with the correct company settings

Please keep in mind that data currently displayed may not be relevant after 
switching to another company. If you have unsaved changes, please make sure 
to save and close the forms before switching to a different company (you can 
click on Cancel now)

IMHO it should not be possible to switch company if unsaved data exists as this may produce inconsistant data. (???)
