[Bug 592608] Re: Projects : indicators may be wrong

Hello os33,

I think you basic needs in project management are properly covered in
OpenERP, even if the setup (now greatly simplified in v6) might be a bit
complicated. As of version 6.0 projects directly have their analytic
accounts created, so you don't need to worry about it anymore.

You should then install the project_timesheet module to link task work and timesheet lines automatically.
Starting from there the idea is that the project managers and project resources should work on the task list directly (no navigation in projects necessary), and also no need to enter work in their timesheets directly, the system handle that.
You can also decide to hide the analytic accounts in the timesheet lines view if you like, the system will preselect it anyway so everything will work.
As for deletion, users are free to delete the lines they created in any case (be it in timesheet or in task work). You can change the access rights if you don't like that.

I'm converting this into a question so others may give you more
assistance on this topic if you need some.

Bug description:
Hi,

I think the way OpenERP manages time spent on project is not good.

If you want to know the time spent on a project and compare it with the hours you planned to spend (basic need in project management) you have to link the project with an analytic account and enter the time spent in tasks.

So you continually have to navigate through your project structure to enter the work done on a task and indirectly fill your timesheet.

By entering directly the time spent in your timesheet you bypass the project. I reread the official book where it's explained that the project is to planned the future and the timesheet is to see what happened : but in that case you don't have any indicator on the project !

So if you decide to use the project side to enter the time spent the only way you have to check the time you spend is to verify your timesheet. Unfortunately a user can directly add a line (or worse delete one : see Bug #591736 ) in the timesheet so all the indicators can be wrong. Currently there is no way to verify that point so you have to recheck all the lines before invoicing.

IMHO in the timesheet, you should not allow to select an analytic account linked with a project or find a way to select a task.
