Excuse me, but all this round about the web client sounds  a bit weird to me:
If you really want integration with your desktop, use the native clients! That 
simple. If you are using the web-interface, you would have to live with its 
design restrictions.

Trying to emulate all desktop effects[1] in a web browser, is something that 
just feels wrong. Either you want a desktop client and have it connect to your 
platform, or you really want a browser, a "viewer" that will be sandboxed, 
generic[2] and simple. 


[1] I've seen people trying to make window managers in Javascript.
[2] By trying to support features like printing, drag+drop, dynamic client-
side behavior etc, you are actually narrowing the compatible browsers choice 
and abandoning the "browser agnostic" principle.
