Hello Dr. Ferdinand,

It is possible to reduced the width of the field by following manner:
<field name="email_from" width="50"/>
but there is one problem with this, you are not able to edit that column width in list view.

Bug description:
even for empty column there seems to be a minimum width which uses sometimes valuable horizontal space

IMHO it should be possible to reduce the column width to a      minimum of a view pixels
