Eric, you're right we should support foreign characters correclty,
especially if openerp gtk/web client support them

  Thunderbird plugin does not display Chinese characters

Bug description:
  With TB 3.19 and v6.0.2 Thunderbird plugin. OpenERP database v6.0.2
  I setup UTF-8 in TB: Edit/preferences/Display/Advanced/ 
  Fonts for "Simplified Chinese"
  outgoing Mail UTF-8
  Incoming Mail UTF-8

  Clicking on OpenERP/Push, I open the Push window, search for Partners. I see correctly all my partners from the openerp database
  Partners with Chinese Characters appears with funny signs (seems that they are not imported in UTF-8)
  My partners are perfectly readable in Chinese in my OpenERP database.
  I can receive/send email in Chinese from TB
