ok, it looks similar to the well-known bug "nautilus won't show the very first time you call g_app_info_launch_default_for_uri() on an URI that should be opened with Nautilus".
I link nautilus and gvfs (since g_app_info_launch_default_for_uri is probably based on gio/gvfs).

Bug description:
Ubuntu 9.10, 32 bit.
Cairo shortcuts doesn't open nautilus after computer hybernation and resume.

After restarting the computer the applet works fine.
