And does the signal appears in dbus-monitor ?
If the signal is not received, it could be a wrong message (for
instance, with not enough parameters), or the Ubuntu indicator that
doesn't dispatch the signal correctly
In which case, using our own watcher should work.
You can do this by killing the "indicator-application-service".
It might be re-started automatically, so you maybe have to chmod -x it
("locate indicator-application-service" to find the executable).
For more safety, restart the dock after you killed the
"indicator-application-service".

Bug description:
My skype icon on the notification area stays always off-line and doesn't reflect the real skype status.
Oddly when Skype logs-out it breaks cpu-freqindicator icons on notification area and cleans the icons within quick browser plug-in.
In attachment a screenshot with the permanently blank skype icon and the output of dbus-monitor starting from skype launch till successfully log-in.
