It seems that only one cairo-dock instance is running here. Did you have 2 instances after having launched "cairo-dock -A"? (it's normal because this command ask you which backend you want to use and then it launches the dock)
But it's strange that you don't have the checkbox... Did you try to resize the window? ("cairo-dock -A" => then resize the window)

Bug description:
  Hi !

  After update my System, cairo-dock does not worked again ... !
  I use Fedora 17 and KDE 4.8

  I cant update plug-ins, its shows this error
  [root@localhost cairo-dock-plug-ins]# bzr up
  bzr: ERROR: [Errno 2] No such file or directory: '/tmp/po_merge98XGbC/result'                                                                          

  And before update cairo-dock core, it is not worked ... !
