Yes, but the problem doesn't occur only from a suspend, it also occurs
after using a fullscreen game that changes the resolution (for example, but
not after changing the resolution manually (from the dock or from the
terminal).

  sometimes icons are replaced by a white noisy square as shown here:

  this seems to only happen with icons that change ... 
  specifically Banshee (music player), Firefox with more than one window open, Nemo with more than one window open
