Note that the support of Compiz and Cairo-Dock session has been improved in the development version: adding new workspaces from Switcher applet, checking that the dock and Compiz can communicate via DBus in order to have more interractions (show all windows of a launcher when clicking on it, etc.).
You can test this development version by adding our "Weekly" PPA: http://www.glx-dock.org/ww_page.php?p=ppa%20Weekly&lang=en
