Here is how to get your computer online after installing Ubuntu, copied
from (where I just added it to) this page

*Can't get online?* You probably need to install the proprietary
hardware driver for your wireless network adapter. To do so, plug your
computer into an ethernet cable attached to your router to get a wired
internet connection, then click on "System - Administration - Hardware
Drivers" in the menu, and click "Activate" to activate the proprietary
driver it recommends for your hardware.
