Many seem to have same issue. For me this is what happens:

tom@tom:~$ env LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib32/libv4l/v4l1compat.so skype

Skype starts, but video is very unreliable and it crashes often. Now
figuring out way to go back to 2.1
