[Bug 990566] Re: Skype causes desktop to slow considerably

In fact there is an Ubuntu skype package, in the partner repository.
And ia32-libs is a deprecated transitional package that just depends on
the 32-bit versions of the libraries. So reassigning to the skype
package.

However, the problem you describe does not sound like anything we can
fix with the skype binary. Nor, for that matter, is there an actionable
bug here on any of the library packages.

Since others are not reporting this problem with skype, this is either a
problem specific to your software configuration, or possibly an issue
with your system not having enough RAM to run skype along with whatever
other software you already have running. You can check for such a
problem using the 'top' and 'free' utilities to monitor available
memory.

Closing this report as invalid. If you can identify a resource leak in
the software feel free to reopen; otherwise there's nothing we can do
here. If you need help tracking down the nature of the resource
problem, please see http://www.ubuntu.com/support for information about
available support forums.

** Package changed: ia32-libs (Ubuntu) => skype (Ubuntu)

** Changed in: skype (Ubuntu)
       Status: New => Invalid
