  'sudo' commands fail with "already defined" errors on oracle hirsute
  images

Bug description:
  The problem was first noticed when it caused these errors:

  and Sam has narrowed it down to a problem running sudo commands, which
  all fail with the error:

  Alias "xxxxx" already defined
