Hmm, the bug you linked is something about a battery warning, I think
you mean Bug #389686. I experienced it some time ago, but then compiz
could be enabled (metacity just kept running, which could be "fixed" by
logging off and on again). Here, I cannot enable compiz in the first
place.

By now, I managed to enable compiz permanently by entering it via gconf-
editor. This is of course not for everyone :)
