[Bug 421056] Re: Compiz patch broke gnome-panel shadows when auto-hidden panel slides out

 

As far as only part of the panel shadow showing up, the idea there is
that the applications and the panel are all on an equal plane. They're
like planks of wood on a deck or a pier. You can't see the shadow one
casts because the other one is right next to it blocking it from view.

As for the shadow no longer seeming to appear at all when your panel is
autohide...well, that is unfortunate but there is no way for the panel
to signal to compiz this is the case so it can't treat it differently
than a panel always showing. Autohide is a niche case while always
showing is the common case. Since there is no way to fix your bug and
the original bug at the same time I am marking this one as Won't Fix. I
am sorry your use case has regressed but this change makes things much
better for everyone else.
