I can confirm as well on my Intel X3100. It does not happen every time
and compiz does not stop running (neither does gtk-window-decorator).
Shortly after this my X started acting wonky and would not even restart
so I had to restart the computer. I haven't seen this issue enough to
know if that part is common or not but I see rapid suspend/resume
testing in my future. Maybe be a driver issue.
