I just noticed another difference which could be related. 
While using 4 desktops :: 

When I activate "Rotate Cube" and rotate the desktop I am presented with
two eight sided 'cubes'.  Prior to the upgrade I was presented with two
different cubes, each with four sides.  Each cube representing the
physical monitor.
