The workaround suggested by Freddy3980 works great for me. (Disabling
the Show Desktop plugin hadnt worked, installing from adobe had solved
this one bug but the quality of video playback was extremely poor; the
only work around to the bug for me was to disable compiz, or at least
the "Desktop wall" plugin, which was a pain in the neck anyway).
