thanks for the reply, but I found that those drivers are a beta version. I can't risk messing up my work tool. 
and  the answer for the last question is yes, every time I repeat those actions compiz freezes.  If, however, I kill compiz, configure whatever I have to configure in ubuntu and then restart compiz, I can keep using my desktop without a problem.
