I've exaclty the same issue here, but unfortunatly resetting the configuration doesn't help. 
The cube is the only method that works for desktop switching while the others fail.
If I activte e. g. the Expo option within the compiz manager, it magically deactivates atomatically after about 1-2 seconds.

Are there some considerations abouit it?

The desktop switching system seems to not work with Compiz anymore.
