I'm seeing the same problem; it's pretty easy to reproduce if I can
provide useful diagnostics. I can reproduce it by logging in to a new
session, running 'gitk' within a git repository, then pressing Alt-Tab.
compiz exists and metacity is started to replace it. This results in all
the windows from different workspaces being dumped together on the first
workspace.

Should this bug be reopened, or should I submit a new one?
