FWIW: I have the same issue with 10.04 (Lucid Lynx). Neither the
revelation nor dictionary panel applets will accept keyboard focus
(i.e., can't type into them) if Visual Effects is Normal or Extra
(System -> Preferences -> Appearance -> Visual Effects). With Visual
Effects set as None, I can type into the text entry of the two applets.
