Hi,

I have the same provlem. Please read below.

When I log off or restart the system after I login metacity and compiz
are not start. What I do is to open Appereance settings go to visual
effects and from none chose the Extra and then everything goes back to
normal. The problem is that when I log off I have to redo the same
procedure beacause metacity is not loading and the visual Effects set
back to none.
