It happened to me also. After I installed a fresh ubuntu 10.10 from
10.04, I cannot activate the extras in the compiz. As I click the extra
button in the preferences - - > appearance -- > visual effects window,
my desktop turns blank and suddenly a box saying "Desktop effects could
not be enabled". If someone can help me please. tnx.
