Quick follow-up to comment #7 --

If you already put the "xorg-edgers" PPA in effect on your system, you
should probably do a "ppa-purge" first, before installing anything else
xorg-related.

Do "sudo apt-get install ppa-purge", and then "ppa-purge -h", and take
it from there.
