You don't even need ay screenlets etc to reproduce, just activate the
widget layer in ccm and check that under "Behaviour" "End Widget mode on
Click" is checked. Now press F9 and there will bie a grey shade.
Normally you should be able to exit by two ways, clicking somewhere or
pressing F9. Since Natty only F9 is working.
