[Bug 740126] Re: Something blocks compiz randomly several times per day

I will look at the new kernel fix and verify with xset dpms. I did
notice an update of xorg-intel driver in the respositories yesterday
(May 4). Since a lot of the earlier posts were related to compiz, I just
want to note here that I also ran into the same problem on Kubuntu (no
compiz) as many users above, after upgrading to Natty official release.
I am using the intel i915 driver, and the official 2.6.38-8-generic
kernel revision.

The GUI freeze (although the mouse works) seemed to happen randomly:
once when browsing with chrome, once with firefox, and once editing a
text file with kate. In some cases, I was able to switch to a terminal
and run dmesg. I unfortunately didn't dump the output to a file (I will
next time), but the last lines were errors related to DRM and the intel
GPU. It indicated a GPU freeze. I will paste the dmesg output here on
next freeze (my apologies).
