I've got the same, in Ubuntu 11.04 with nvidia-current, particularly
while running VirtualBox so when there's little video memory left, maybe
that's relevant?

nvidia 173 seems to work fine.


(for what it's worth I really like Unity on both my 9" netbook and 19" desktop - I'm surprised how much bad press it's received)
