Same problem for me
Dell inspiron 1525, intel graphics.
No direct trigger which caused it for me, just watching videos with totem
As pulseaudio was mentioned earlier, looked through syslog for anything around that time and found the following:

May 30 13:45:37 omega pulseaudio[8665]: pid.c: Stale PID file, overwriting.
May 30 13:45:37 omega acpid: client 1259[0:0] has disconnected
May 30 13:45:37 omega acpid: client connected from 8667[0:0]
May 30 13:45:37 omega acpid: 1 client rule loaded
May 30 13:45:37 omega pulseaudio[8665]: main.c: Unable to contact D-Bus: org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoServer: Failed to connect to socket /tmp/dbus-j1K13uOC5O: Connection refused
