Adding "compiz --replace" to the startup entries solves the problem for
me.

I would like to mention that it was quite a big issue, as not only the
hot corners did not work, but also hitting the left edge with the
pointer did not produce the startup bare. Also, I had to reset all the
bindings, not just one of them.
