Ubuntu 11.10 nvidia with Cyborg RAT 5
Changing the mousepoll works fine. I use 5 as pollrate, otherwise the my mouse moves very slow. 

I add a separate file into /etc/modprobe.d, instead of unloading and
loading usbhid module via /etc/modules

sudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/bug-764330-usbhid.conf

add following line:
options usbhid mousepoll=5

save file and update ramdisk
sudo update-initramfs -u
